Many people hear the word exfoliation and think “scrub”. Using a scrub or device like a body brush, are forms of physical exfoliation. I’m a huge proponent of chemical exfoliants- these use AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids) or enzymes to break down surface skin cells. The result? Age spots are faded, pores are unclogged and fine lines and wrinkles appear less visible; this lends to brighter, radiant skin. Also key: clearing away the dead skin cells allows for better absorption of your skin care products. You may read “acid” and think “aggressive” though interestingly, acne prone and highly sensitive skin types respond well to chemical exfoliants. I have tried a wide variety and have a select few that really stand out. Here are my favorites:

Leave on for 20 minutes (10 minutes to start). You’ll feel moderate tingling. When you wash off you’ll be left with extremely smooth skin. (It’s called “baby” facial for a reason!) It comes with Virgin Marula Oil, which you apply right after. The difference after just the first use quite impressive. Try this if you’re looking to step up your exfoliation game : )

  1. […] Regular exfoliation unclogs pores, sweeps away dead skin cells, and reveals the fresh skin beneath. But this is the key: you should opt for chemical exfoliants like glycolic acid or lactic acid, as they’re gentler on your skin than physical exfoliants, and promote a healthy glow. I’m a huge fan of chemical exfoliation; see that post here. […]
