Let’s get into our favorite topic- SPF.

Listen up Empties Community. UV radiation from the sun is a major contributor to signs of aging. If you are not wearing sunscreen regularly, all of the skincare products, facials and makeup are fruitless. And by regularly, I mean every.single.day. regardless of where you’ll be spending your time-indoors or outdoors. Cumulative sun damage adds up- in the car, sitting near a window, quickly running into a store for an errand, even on an overcast day. Trust me. Have I drilled this in enough? Good.

Here’s my regimen:

I never skip a beat with this routine: I apply this SPF from eltaMD to face. It has light tint that some days takes the place of makeup for me. I then apply this SPF to neck and carry it down to the upper chest well below the clavicle. With any remaining sunscreen left, I rub that to the top of my hands. These are lightweight, feel GREAT alone or under makeup, and leave no white cast. Both items I have purchased for years via the Amazon Subscribe and Save- this program is one of my efficiency hacks- it ensures I’m never without.

You’re doing GREAT by following the regimen above, but don’t forget about reapplying. If you’ll be spending time outdoors- poolside, theme park, BBQ at the park, ball game- you need to reapply every 2 hours. This brush on sunscreen is a tried-and -true item I have used for years. It’s a nice way to keep your makeup intact. Another equally handy item I LOVE for reapplication- and I have not seen anyone talk about these- are sunscreen face mists. This SPF 50 face mist by Coola is awesome- it sprays evenly, feels refreshing on and leaves the face with a slight dewy (not greasy) finish. This option by Pacifica has a nice tropical scent and leaves a matte finish. I have purchased both sprays over and over. I keep one in the car, in the purse, in my office. All three items are small enough to throw into your belt bag (I recently used the Pacifica one for SPF reapplication while at the Disney World parks- worked like a charm!) I plan to try this stick form next.

My other picks:

This one from Supergoop. It dries matte and is great if you’re concerned about oily skin. Supergoop has tons of other GREAT sunscreen options as well.

This one from Sunbum. The roller makes it easy to apply and everyone loves the scent.

Alba Botanica has several great options which are safe for the entire family. This one is super gentle to apply to kiddos’ face and body

  2. […] Step 4: Sunscreen, Always Protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays by making sunscreen a non-negotiable part of your routine with a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Choose a product with at least SPF 30 and apply it generously. I always say, select a product you can afford to be generous with. There’s no point in purchasing a pricey sunscreen that you are using sparingly. Read more about SPF here […]
