I’m all about a “no makeup” makeup look- this basically means the bare minimum. First, I don’t feel like myself with a ton of makeup on. I’m definitely all about “less is more” when it comes to makeup. Second, I’m typically short on time (never enough hours in the day!) I’m the type that would much rather sleep longer and enjoy my leisurely cup of coffee, than spend loads of time getting ready. Going minimal doesn’t have to mean compromising on a beautiful look. The best part is that it doesn’t take long at all. You’ll be looking effortlessly beautiful in a matter of minutes!
So without further ado, here’s how I achieve a “no makeup” makeup look in 6 steps:
Skin First
When comes to your skincare routine, I don’t feel that this is an area on which to skimp- this you know. For me personally, I’m all about “doing the most” ( a sharp contrast to my minimalist makeup approach) – multiple steps, masks, peels, et cetera, as for me, it’s a form of self care. I realize that this is not everyone’s cup of tea. Even if you prefer a more pared down regimen, I urge strict avoidance of the no-no’s like going to bed with makeup on, not washing your pillow cases regularly, picking at your face and inconsistent SPF usage. While you’re working on improving the condition of your skin, you can mimic a beautiful, glowy complexion.
Apply a hydrating serum. For serious glow, I recommend this one by CosRX which has over 24,000 amazing reviews. Follow this with your sunscreen. I love this tinted one -it leaves a light, dewy finish.
2. Primer
Now you’ll want to prime your skin. I love a dewy, illuminating primer. The one I’m using currently and loving is this one by Rare Beauty. If you’re a super oily type and don’t prefer a glowy, balmy appearance, this one- also by Rare Beauty, will be more to your liking- it leaves a matte finish. (when I’m short on time I skip this step, but it really makes SUCH a difference).
3. Touch Up
You’ll want to dab just a bit of concealer on any blemishes, on areas with redness and a bit around the eyes. They key is to use a light hand and apply with your fingers. The warmth of your skin will make the product melt right in. I LOVE this concealer– it comes in an impressive shade range and blends so well. I use shade Custard. When I’m doing a “no makeup” makeup look, I typically skip my tinted moisturizer (I don’t wear foundation) or I’ll just use a pea sized amount. My favorites are these by Laura Mercier and Nars.
4. Add Warmth and Dimension to the Face
You’ll accomplish this with bronzer and blush. A cream formulation ( like this and this) is best. However, I tend to gravitate to this bronzer because it’s much faster (for me at least) than blending in a cream. It has over 35k outstanding reviews btw! For blush, you can’t go wrong with this cream option or this (HIGHLY RATED) one. Right now I’m loving this blush– this is a universal blush that gives the perfect natural flush- I have it in light pink. The shade light coral looks gorgeous as well.
5. Light Mascara
Curl your lashes and apply a natural looking mascara (save your high impact mascara for date night). I love these clean, non irritating formulas by Ilia and Honest Beauty They both have a great brush that separates lashes well. The Honest one comes with mascara on one end, primer on the other.
6. Add a Touch of Color to Lips
You can quickly swipe on lip gloss. My go to is this one . I also love this one (my most recent beauty buy)- you dab a bit on your finger tap it onto the lips, then blot with a tissue for a stained look.
In just 6 easy steps, you will be able to achieve a beautiful “no makeup” makeup look. I’d love to hear from you! Let me know if you implement these tips or try any of the products I have recommended.
Forward this to that friend of yours who loves the “no makeup” makeup look!
