Serums are an excellent way to address your skin concerns. In this post I’m addressing what I’d consider the three most common- acne/congested skin, hyperpigmentation and dry/dehydrated skin. Each of these three concerns will be addressed with Niacinamide, Tranexamic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid- either alone in combination with other products. You will apply your skincare from thinnest to thickest, and therefore, these serums will go on before your retinol and moisturizer.

Here are a few options to get you started.

NIACINIMIDE- an anti-inflammatory that tames acne and strengthens the skin barrier. Great for congested skin.

Naturium Niacinimide Serum 12% – If you have congested skin, this is for you (check out the ratings!)

Paula’s Choice 20% Niacinimide treatment – if you’re seeking a more concentrated solution, this one is a great pick and also contains Vitamin C.

La Roche Posay Effaclar Salacylic Acid Acne Treatment Serum– this is my #1 pick for acne prone skin. This lightweight powerhouse serum contains a blend of salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lipo-hydroxy acid with Niacinamide. It works on existing blemishes and helps to prevent new breakouts. A+.

TRANEXAMIC ACID (TXA)– reduces hyperpigmentation by working to regulate melanin overproduction. (fun fact! We use TXA in the operating room to control bleeding.)

Naturium 5% TXA This can be used on all skin types, even sensitive and acne prone. It can be used with other actives during your AM or PM routine. Bonus: this product also contains Niacinimide

HYALURONIC ACID- a humectant that draws water into the skin. It’s excellent for anyone struggling with dry skin.

La Roche Posay Hyalu B5 Serum– Apply to damp skin to maximize absorption. You’re getting great bank for your buck with the La Roche Posay products. In my opinion, this is the best drugstore skincare brand. There is much that goes into their product development and clinical research and they manage to keep most of their products at $35 or less.

Allies of Skin Multi Hyaluronic Antioxidant Hydration Serum – this is a very high quality serum containing multiple forms of Hyaluronic Acid. Plumping and super hydrating. Apply to damp skin.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments below- what do you think of these serum picks? Do you have any other skincare concerns you’d like to address?

xo,
