So you recently started a retinoid treatment, have chafed skin from severe weather, are eczema prone-fill in the blank. We’ve all been there. Dry, peeling, burning skin is uncomfortable and nobody’s cup of tea.

Here are my tips:

First and foremost, you’ll want to ensure you stick to the basics for a few days- a gentle cleanser and a good moisturizer.

Avoid any actives for now. I’ m talking AHAs, BHAs, any targeted serums, retinol, even Vitamin C. It’s best to stop all actives to ensure nothing else is contributing to the irritation.

Strick sun avoidance is key. I’ve covered SPF essentials extensively. Daily SPF use is a non-negotiable. If you have hyperpigmentation, I recommend using a tinted SPF. You’ll want to cover up with a hat as well.

Avoid washing the affected area with hot water. That will only cause further drying.

La Roche Posay emollient Cicaplast cream

Cicaplast is an item I have repurchased repeatedly. It can be used for babies as young as 1 week- that tells you everything you need to know about it being suitable for compromised skin! At around $14, it’s a great buy. This is such a popular item- it’s often out of stock. Keep your eye on a restock to purchase. It’s worth it!

Evercalm Recovery Balm is incredibly emollient. It goes on smooth to hydrate dry, tight feeling skin without leaving a greasy residue. A holy grail product. Ren offers a limited edition supersized Evercalm in darling holiday packaging as well.

Ren makes a gentle cleansing milk that cleanses well without stripping moisture. It’s EXCELLENT for dry skin. They also make a gel version.

CeraVe makes supreme, cost effective products containing Ceramides. This hydrating cleanser has nearly 16,000 excellent reviews.

This Cleanser Balm is a terrific PM option for double cleansing without stripping.

Let me know in the comments- do you struggle with dry skin?
